THE TASK
Harper Bee is a new Australian business specialised in homeware, fashion and stationery founded by mother and daughter team Janine and Jess. The first two stores are located in Westfield Chermside, Brisbane and the Grand Central Shopping Centre, Toowomba.
Harper Bee’s target market are girls that are moving from childhood to being teenagers. All the products are designed for this age group in mind.
The challenge was to design an identity that is bold, fun and sassy, yet not too old nor too childish. Twelve year olds are a difficult age group to design for since they are seeking their own identity as they mature.
THE SOLUTION
The design task was clear: to create a look that would be cute but elegant at the same time.
Circus Creative used Harper Bee’s existing logo and few pre-selected colours as a starting point for the visual identity. For a touch of luxury, we added metallic gold to accompany the five bright colours.
We took the idea “Bee” and created a seamlessly repeating honey comb pattern which can be used as a recognisable design element in numerous different ways.
The same pattern worked in the business cards and business stationery, as well as honey comb shaped swing tags. The pattern is repeated in the shopping bags and packaging, as well as in the stores as a design element.
A simple and stylish typography completed the look.
